Introduction
In today’s world, the mobile phone has become a constant companion. It is always within our reach, yet for many people, the love of the Qur’an no longer occupies the same place in their hearts.
The moment we wake up, the first thing that lights up is our mobile screen. But how many of us begin the day with the recitation of the Qur’an? Before going to sleep, we scroll through countless social media posts, watch endless videos, and spend hours online, yet finding a few minutes to recite even a small portion of the Qur’an often feels difficult.
Sadly, many Muslims today cannot even read the Qur’an. Among those who can, only a small number recite it with proper pronunciation (Tajwīd). Even among those who have learned to recite correctly, how many make the Qur’an a daily part of their lives? For many, its recitation is limited to Ramadan, special nights, religious occasions, or after the passing of a loved one. Every one of us should sincerely reflect upon this reality.
Another unfortunate trend in our society is that the Qur’an is often associated with only a few occasions:
- Taking an oath in court.
- Placing it over the bride’s head during a wedding ceremony.
- Reciting it in a new home for blessings.
Is this all the Qur’an was revealed for?
Allah Almighty sent down the Noble Qur’an not only to be recited but also as guidance, a source of advice, and a complete way of life.
The Qur’an Is the True Guide
Allah Almighty says:
﴿إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ﴾
Translation:
“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright.”
(Surah Al-Isrā’, Verse 9)
Despite this clear guidance, many of us have shifted our attention from the Qur’an to the endless distractions of our mobile phones—activities that often bring neither lasting benefit in this world nor success in the Hereafter.
A mobile phone is neither inherently good nor bad. Its value depends entirely on how it is used. If it becomes a means of learning the Qur’an, acquiring Islamic knowledge, and spreading goodness, it becomes a source of reward. But if it is used for endless entertainment, meaningless conversations, and sinful content, it can become a cause of regret.
The Best Among Us
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
«خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ»
Translation:
“The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 5027)
This hadith reminds us that true excellence is not measured by technology, popularity, or worldly achievements, but by our relationship with the Book of Allah.
A Moment of Self-Reflection
We should honestly ask ourselves:
How many hours do we spend on our mobile phones every day, and how many minutes do we dedicate to the Qur’an?
If the answer makes us uncomfortable, then perhaps it is time to reconsider our priorities.
The Qur’an Will Intercede
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said:
«اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ، فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لِأَصْحَابِهِ»
Abu Umamah al-Bāhilī (رضي الله عنه) narrated that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say:
Translation:
“Recite the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for those who recited it.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1873)
This hadith serves as a powerful reminder that while mobile phones, viral videos, and temporary fame will all remain behind in this world, our relationship with the Qur’an will accompany us into the grave and become a means of intercession on the Day of Judgment.
Let the Qur’an Lead Our Lives
This worldly life is temporary. New mobile models, trending videos, and online popularity will all fade away. But the light of the Qur’an will illuminate our graves and, by the permission of Allah, become a source of salvation in the Hereafter.
Let us make a sincere commitment:
Our mobile phone should remain our servant—not our master. And the Qur’an should remain the true guide of our lives.
The day the Qur’an regains its place in our hearts is the day we will rediscover peace, blessings, and true success.
